Green Trust back online and powered up

A few days ago, Our veggiegen snapped the alternator bracket, dropping the alternator/water pump belt, and apparently overheating and blowing the head gasket. We had the bracket welded and put everything back together, but no fire. Today we perform open-heart surgery to find the source of the problem that's preventing the veggigen from starting. We obtained a backup generator late last night, so we again have lights and internet access. Will keep you posted of the process with pictures.

Don't forget, the New issue of ESSN comes out tomorrow night at midnight, so check it out!

Biodiesel Processor System

We have bundled three great kits and added a scale to provide you with one click ordering of everything you need to get started.

At the heart of the Biodiesel Processor System is an Appleseed style processor kit that you can assemble onto your electric water heater. This steel processor tank will not strech and leak when loaded with hot oil like those plastic tank processors. This is a proven system used by thousands across the country to make ASTM spec biodiesel.

The system also includes a Biodiesel Wash Tank Kit for washing your biodiesel. You assemble it onto your 55 gallon poly or steel drum and have everything you need to be mist washing your fuel right away. Those plastic tank processors want you to wash in your biodiesel in the reactor vessel, preventing you from making more biodiesel while your washing.

The system comes with a Biodiesel Titration Kit that tells you exactly how much catalyst is needed for your oil.

The system comes with the My Weigh 3001P electronic scale for accurately measuring the catalyst.

The system has clear assembly instructions loaded with pictures and is easy to build with just a few tools. It has everything you need but the water heater and 55 gallon drums.

Weekend Projects

Saturday the Green-Trust crew spent some time with our neighbor on his diesel powered bandsaw sawmill. We cut a bunch of logs and some boards, and made plans for mounting a coolant heated veggie tank on top of the rig. Adirondack siding is in the future for Green-Trust.

Sunday we went down to the NYC area, and converted a E-350 Ford Van with a veggie oil kit. The owner also wants a 25/2 Diesel Lister 15kw generator with 3 phase power for his shop, so we will be there again in the near future.

Yesterday was strawberry weeding day, but also had time to change the tires on the veggie powered suburban, and build some scissor trusses. Gathered some organic veggies out of cold storage and made stew:

2 large potatoes, 1 large beet, 2 large carrots, 2 onions, 3 celery stalks, all washed, not peeled (no chemical fertilizers or pesticides were used on these veggies).

Cooked the beets in 1 can of water, 1 can of chicken broth, and one can of cream of chicken soup. Then added the potatoes and kept cooking, finally added the rest of the veggies plus 2 pieces of garlic, and after mixture was boiling well, added 1 box of macaroni noodles, and 1 lb of cooked hamburger. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Back online after the Move

We had a pretty traumatic move last week, involving moving all our belonginings 350 miles back to our off-grid homestead, and the self destruction of the transmission in our van halfway home. Tow truck brought the van the rest of the way, and a friend pulled the U-haul trailer with his pickup. Took a week to get our DSL/Phone installed, but we are unpacked, the wood is in, and the veggiegen is tuned up for the winter. Saw our first snow of the season today, but friends told us they had some two weeks ago and we missed it being further south. We need a diesel wagon or truck to replace the van, so please keep your eyes peeled for something reasonable. This weekend is our Biodiesel/WVO seminar here at Green-Trust HQ, and we are planning a DIY wind generator build class soon. Stay tuned.
